How The Media Landscape Will Change Our Culture

How The Media Landscape Will Change Our Culture

Well, we have made it to the last day of June, and if you are breathing, have enough food to eat and a stable home, that's a blessing in a challenging time. (even my brief is one day off due to hospitalization of my sister. We're all working through something. Be strong).

In the meantime, as we prep for the long holiday weekend ahead...

...here's Lnk Agency's quick, snackable digi-culture trend brief for the week to continue to help you better navigate the New Era. Here's what to watch:

Deepening Of A Media Shift

Watch for even more deconstruction of the media. Whether it's the class action suit of the Los Angeles Times over race and gender bias (filed by six Black, Latinx, and female journalists) to Black and brown reporters pushing back at The New York Times to a number of other scenarios, we are witnessing an intriguing shift.

This is important to track because new voices and new agendas will start to push through. What makes this intriguing is that new players will start to obtain visibility or those who are already on the radar may start to be covered differently. This will create a shift in the overall members of the powerati. But what is interesting to note is that there have not been quite as many eruptions, aside from Refinery29, within the newer media guard, cool "downtown"-type outlets, and/or biz and entertainment trades and certainly it is not because they are all wonderfully representative of a variety of hues. This could be due to lack of strength in numbers to feel comfort in demanding change. This is key to watch since this segment often reports the tone on trends and sentiment way before they reach big outlets like the Times. Thus, watch for potential new multi-hued natives to potentially snatch their market share and drive voice in new ways across both current and emerging digital platforms. Creating alliances with them will be key!
